10 escape attempts per year in Dutch prisons

This is evident from reports of specific incidents that the Ministry of Security and Justice have made public under the law open government. The 51 attempts took place between 2010 and 2015 and in total there were 63 detainees involved.
Escape from prison. It is not only in films and abroad. In five years time there have been 51 attempts in the Netherlands to escape from secure institutions.

Most of the attempts (73 percent) has been foiled in prison. When 14 attempts detainees managed to actually escape from the prison grounds. A part of them is not much later still held outside the prison walls.
Murder, drugs and theft
The punishment of the prisoners who tried to escape varies greatly. Both heavy boys and petty criminals ventured a try. The offenses for which they were trapped include murder, drug trafficking and theft.
On average, there are about ten flight attempts per year. In 2014 there were six, but it was the largest of the past five years. From penitentiary Zuyderkerk Forest in Heerhugowaard eight detainees tried to escape once. However, it remained an attempt.
