ACM: providers should spend less 06 numbers
KPN, Vodafone and other providers should be less generous with providing 06 numbers. Due to the rapidly growing number of Internet-connected devices and gadgets is running low, the number of mobile numbers, says supervisor ACM.
Of the 60 million available forgive 06 numbers are now 54.5 million. Normally, this is more than sufficient for the coming years, as hard as a growing number of mobile phones anymore.
The problem is that the number of devices connected to the Internet indeed growing rapidly. An average family of four in 2012 had 'only' 8 Internet devices (including smartphones, tablets, laptops, game console, modem), will in two years there have been 24, according to research.
And in 2022 this number will double again to 50: televisions, e-readers, automotive, alarm systems, health devices, smart electricity meters, lighting. Absolutely everything goes online. Moreover, a growing number of mobile pinapparaatjes and other business applications.
The Authority for Consumers and Markets sees this development as well and two years ago for all those applications introduced the 097 number. Only providers keep himself sufficiently to these rules and keep them spend 06 songs in many cases.
Omnummeroperatie
,, It is harmful to the Dutch economy run as 06 numbers, "said Johan Ketelaar, Director Telecom, Transportation and Post at the ACM. ,, We have to ensure together that far-reaching measures are necessary, including the renumbering of 10-digit 11 to 06-digit numbers. Telecom operators need to take responsibility. "
To help providers as a hand ACM stepped up monitoring of the issuance of 06 numbers. KPN, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Tele2 and other providers can also expect a quick ACM invitation for consultations.
The previous renumbering was in 1995: 6 million households received from the former PTT a new number. The operation cost 100 million guilders and caused much inconvenience.
The number of issued 097 numbers does grow strongly, but according to the ACM so long not fast enough. Of the first 100 million songs until the end of 2014 now issued 8.4 million. That is 2.5 million more than a year earlier.
