Amsterdam Scientists 'aspirin against premature birth'
A simple aspirin seems to prevent premature births. Amsterdam Scientists get 350,000 euros to study it extensively.
Low-dose aspirin prevents pregnancy poisoning but can also prevent spontaneous preterm birth, expect gynecologists of the VUmc and AMC in Amsterdam.
"We thought long that there was no specific cause for spontaneous preterm births, but now we have indications that in the beginning of pregnancy, something goes wrong during the construction of the placenta. By swallowing daily aspirin clotting the blood less blood flow to the placenta is better and could keep those last longer, "said VU gynecologist Marjon de Boer.
The study involves eighty milligrams of aspirin daily - the painkiller of the drug is packaged in five hundred milligrams and strongly inadvisable for pregnant women, because of the risk of bleeding.
