Amsterdam will tackle public transport spugers

In a DNA-match follows penalty, without a match, the DNA is stored in a database. "Spitting is by public transport staff perceived as one of the most degrading forms of aggression," said Mireille Muller of the CFP.

Last year, there were 28 reports of spitting in the Amsterdam public transport. The spit kits are used on lines where these incidents occur frequently.

Bespuwers of public transport staff may receive prison sentences to three months or a fine of 4,000 euros.

The trial of CFP is not unique. In 2010, the NS tried also to address ever-ov spugers using DNA kits. The NS stopped the collection of the DNA material because it did not work well in practice.Of the six samples there was handed one match. Analyzing the DNA material took too much time.

The CFP hope the effect is preventive. "We do this to protect our people," said Muller.
