Every day there collected around 80,000 children in the Netherlands with a taxi van to go to a suitable school. Train or bus because of their disability or behavioral problems is not an option.

Municipalities are responsible for transporting students who have to go to a school far from their home. But according to teachers the quality has deteriorated rapidly. Research by the SP that they mostly complain about the guidance in the bus, which is often substandard and sometimes completely lacking. Also, it often happens that students are too long time.

Exhausted

"A lot of teachers see children arrive at school tired because they sometimes longer than one hour have been in a van," says SP Member of Parliament Tjitske Siderius. "And then the school day has yet to begin."

Half of the teachers say also that students sometimes can not because transportation is not paid to the school of their choice.

"Leerlingenvervoer is outsourced to the cheapest company," said a teacher who anonymity. "Quantity is more important than quality. Many drivers do not know whom they transport into the bus and how to deal with it.

"CHEAP

Furthermore, the through drivers is high so students often see a new face behind the wheel. For students with autism or behavioral problems can cause problems because they can be difficult to change.

"It appears that municipalities opt for the cheapest solution rather than what is best for the students," said Siderius. "That has to stop. I would therefore like to examine whether schools themselves could to arrange transport.
