New divisions within Ajax after coming Heitinga
The virtually completed transfer of John Heitinga says a lot about the power relations within Ajax.
Marc Overmars came across large resistance at the newly introduced ' strategic ', but the technical director won the internal fight on points, supported by Frank de Boer and fellow Director Edwin van der Sar. However, the question is: what does those battle in a slightly wider perspective?
Johnny Heitinga returns this summer free transfer back to Ajax, but that transfer tells only a small part of the story. The return of the 31-year-old Defender led to behind the scenes-becoming again-an internal power struggle in Amsterdam, with effort won by technical director Marc Overmars.
Great was the divisions over the deal with Heitinga, where the different currents in principle opposite each other again. Tscheu La Ling ' Technical Advisor ' wanted Heitinga up to for one year was set, but Overmars made the agreement around for one season and an option for an extra year. It has to be under these conditions very weird, helping and Heitinga in practice a minimum of two years in Amsterdam.
Strategic Committee for those who can no longer follow it all: Ajax recently presented a new ' strategic ', with Johan Cruyff confidant Ling 1958 as ' Technical Advisor '. That Committee needs to temporarily fill the hole created by the departure of General Manager Michael Kinsbergen, for whom no successor was found.
But in the cryptic, complex organization structure of Ajax called those Commission is right many new questions about power and responsibilities. Because how far extends the power of that Committee exactly-and what is the role of Johan Cruijff in this whole, now his friend Ling finally a (semi-informal) spot has in the Organization? Who is actually the boss at Ajax? And to what extent does this Commission restricting the freedom of movement of technical director Overmars?
The issue of Heitinga means that Overmars this battle has won, but also shows that the technical director no longer can operate autonomously. The strategic Committee, in which former banker Dolf Campbell and former player Theo van duivenbode is actually a three-unit with Ling, had serious doubts about the arrival of the Defender. Ling expressed its veto over a first agreement in principle, much to the chagrin of the technical manual.
