The number of crimes in the Netherlands over the past seven years have fallen by almost a quarter (23 percent). Police registered last year, just over one million crimes.

Aantal misdrijven daalt met bijna een kwartIn 2007 there were still 1.3 million. This is evidenced by the annual publication of the Crime and Justice Research and Documentation Centre (WODC), the Council for the Judiciary and the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

Crimes fall under any criminal activity, from vandalism to violence and offenses against public order and authority.

With the decrease of the number of suspects, the Public Prosecutor (OM) and the court made matters less. The prosecution handled 220 000 cases in 2014, one-fifth less than in 2007. In 2014 the judge took away 98 000 cases. That's almost a quarter less than in 2007.
