Scam Mails becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from genuine

Cybercriminals are increasingly more professional work and send fake emails that almost indistinguishable from real ones are. The logo of a company is used, there are no more spelling errors as before and sometimes in the name of existing employees is used.
Dutch companies receive daily many responses from people who have received a fake email with an account or a reminder. The companies even have to hire additional staff to answer all questions.

"Earlier many mails were sent supposedly from financial institutions," said Rob van Bree of the National Police. "Meanwhile happens also from other companies."
Tons damage
Since early this year seeing them at collection agency Intrum Justitia lot of such mail passing by. "Criminals abuse than the logo of the company and send a mail with an attachment, which is called ransom ware," says director Rick Terra. "If you open it with attachment, your computer becomes as it were a hostage and you can not anymore."
The company has considerable experience here. "On peak days we have to hire four or five additional people to the many questions that come to answer. In addition, abuse our good name. We are talking about tons of damage."
And Intrum Justitia is not the only company. Also at KPN they see an increase in these types of mails compared to last year. At ICS, International Card Services, a department with about twenty people, including former policemen, day and night engaged in fraud detection. The company has also put examples of fake mails online in the hope that people compare it to the mail they have received.
Computer blocked
Ingrid Piet recently received such an email, purporting to come from Intrum Justita. "It said I owed a fee. A small amount, about 80 to 90 euros. I thought, why do I get such an email? But I thought, maybe I missed something overlooked." She opened the attachment and saw a few days later that it was wrong. "All my files and pictures were lost and my computer was blocked by a violent virus."
Intrum Justitia finds that fake emails are a growing social problem where more attention must come from law enforcement. "To protect the consumer, but also for companies like us," said Rick Terra.
Make sure you do not just open or click on files mails which you are not sure which you own.
National Police spokesman
The National Police claims to have extra attention to cybercrime, but acknowledges that it is a difficult problem. "Criminals can from around the world via the Internet to commit crimes in the Netherlands," said Rob van Bree. "It is therefore important to ensure that your computer security is in order."
According to the National Police have citizens and businesses as a task in itself. "Make sure you do not just open or click on files mails which you are not sure which you own."
