The case became known as the "murder without a corpse" because the body of De Vrieze was never found. Destijd was assumed that De Vrieze in 2010 in a house in Groningen was killed.
Two years ago, the now 37-year-old Cafer G. sentenced to twelve years in prison for manslaughter on the then 45-year-old Michael de Vrieze from Burum. But the Groninger is released from jail immediately.

G. stayed there as well. The house was later found the victim's blood.
EVIDENCE
Although hard evidence was missing, there were, according to the Groningen District Court sufficient evidence. So the man had taken money with the bank card and credit card De Vrieze and he drove in his car. G. has always denied that he had anything to do with the disappearance of De Vrieze.
New research by the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI) now appears that there was much less blood than was previously assumed. G.'s lawyer Jan Taekema therefore doubts whether there has been a crime and asked the court to release G..
