Drivers who have done everything they can to prevent migrants in Calais in their truck climbing, should not have to get as fine in Britain yet migrants are discovered. That finds SP-MEP Dennis Daniel.

He has joined with other members of the European Parliament, transport organisations and trade unions made a plan of action for the migrant problem in Calais.

"Drivers do their best to prevent migrants hiding in their truck and then get told that they are a people smuggler," said Daniel in the NOS Radio 1 journal.

Migrants try all kinds of ways to Board in the French city. They come through broken fences the parking lot of the trucks on and break the cars open. That is why many truck drivers refuse any longer to drive to Calais.

Serious according to De Jong is the migrants in Calais problem serious. "It is on the one hand enormous what risks people take to Board and on the other hand it delivers a lot of damage on for carriers." Therefore he finds that there is quick action should be taken.

The plan of the members of the European Parliament, transport organizations and trade unions, that they offer today to the European Commission, consists of ten points:

1. Better flow and security of the access roads to Calais

2. Larger parking within protected area so that you are always riding in can come

3. Improved security of the corridor between the French and the British control

points

4. Increasing the number of lanes at the French and uk customs from 2 to 3

5. Requested, all drivers who must have a CO2-check can get (this allows people in trucks be detected)

6. Use of longer trains through the tunnel and snappier by walking at the tunnel (there are now many disturbances in the charging system to get the trucks on the train)

7. Places barriers and fences along the route to access for migrants to make

8 more difficult. Drivers who call the special helpline of the French police, must be able to count on police assistance within 15 minutes (as promised by France in January)

9. Displacement tent camps of migrants to location outside Calais and these migrants da

10. not fining drivers For uk authorities: if they met the UK Borders checklist and preliminary checks have to be carried out by the French authorities in the transport companies now sometimes have the impression that France is not doing everything to stop the illegal immigrants.

"If the problem is not widely addressed and action is taken only in Calais, a waterbed effect", fears the young. "Then try the migrants through Belgium, Hoek van Holland or IJmuiden to travel to Britain."
